Hadith 40 – Al Ghuraba

Asalaamu alaykum,

While teaching this, consider beginning with a talk on Critical Thinking/Literacy and a discussion on Objective Perspectives versus Subjectivity.  Point out how Allah mentions in the Qur’an “for those who reflect” and “those who understand” and why this allows Muslims to be objective.  Next, consider showing how “Al Ghuraba” is a misunderstood concept for Muslims…mainly because Jihad is not a topic taught very much, or not taught correctly and there are, in fact, no English books on the topic…as a result, people have used eloquent speech to mix their opinions within an Islamic context and this has led many astray…show the short video “Dirty Kuffar” and mentioned that this video has been linked to the July 2005 bombings in London, England.  Another song to show is “Ghuraba” which is the anthem of the Ikhwani Muslimeen – a misguided jihadi group in Egypt whose actions have caused death to innocent civilians.  If you can find the version from Sa’d al Ghamdi, I’ve put his opening preamble on the last slide in the powerpoint slideshow.

Barak Allahu Fikum!

Qada & Qadr

Asalaamu alaykum,

Here is the slide show and worksheet for Qada and Qadr

The most important part of understanding this topic is the remember that Allah has no limits, while creation has limitations.  Allah is above his creation, which means he has no limits – His creation is limited by various boundaries.

Second, nothing happens except that there is a reason behind it for occurring.  The Prophet (saw) said, “Amazing is the position of the believer in that when something good happens he/she says Alhumdullillah and when something doesn’t go his/her way he/she is still content in what Allah has decreed” (Sahih Muslim) – why?  Because the believer knows that Allah is always looking out him/her… making sure they follow the path of goodness towards Jannah and so while we think something is good for me, Allah knows it is not and so He prevents harm form coming to me…Allah is the Best of Planners and, because He created us, He knows us better than we know ourselves.  A mechanic knows everything about the car he makes, even when it needs service and what type of service it needs at different measures of kilometersf and even knows approximately how long the engine will last.  In the same way, we belong to Allah and He knows us best, because He created us.

If further discussion is required, don’t hesitate to email me.

The Role of Women in Islam

This is a workshop given at the Al-Fajr Institute in Mississauga, via the YM class run by ICNA.

There is a powerpoint (some slides have presenters notes), a worksheet and two sets of scenarios for female and male participants to work through.

You’ll have to come up with your own ‘speech’ to go along with the slide show, as I didn’t record my presentation on audio.

Barak Allahu Fikum.
